A stretched chain gives no symptoms for a long time — until it gets really expensive.
Chain skipping a tooth
The timing loses synchronisation and the pistons hit the valves. Instead of a chain replacement you get a cylinder head repair, sometimes a whole engine.
Wear you cannot see
Worn guides and a stretched chain are hidden under the cover. The car drives normally although the safety margin is already gone.
Guesswork
We do not guess by the sound. We check the cam timing corrections in the ECU and measure the parts after removal.

Usually between 100,000 and 200,000 km — we will tell you the exact value for your engine.

No documented service history? Check the timing first.
3.You hear rattling
A metallic noise after a cold start or noise from the front of the engine that grows with revs.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still drive with a stretched chain?
Until the chain skips — and that happens without warning. If you hear rattling after a cold start, better not to wait.
How long does the replacement take?
Usually one working day. On engines with a lot of ancillaries it can take two days — we will tell you in advance.
Can only the chain be replaced?
It can, but we do not do it. An old tensioner and worn guides quickly destroy a new chain, and taking it apart again costs more than the full kit.
Can I bring my own parts?
Yes, but then the warranty does not cover the service — we are not responsible for parts we did not select.
What if the chain has already skipped?
We start with a compression test and valve check. If the engine is fine, we replace the chain. If there is damage, we show it to you and prepare a separate quote.
